Florida state Rep. Angie Nixon (D) slammed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) in emotional remarks after a white man shot and killed three Black folks in what officers described as a “racially motivated” assault in Jacksonville on Saturday.
“Look, on the finish of the day, the governor has blood on his arms,” Nixon, who represents a district that features the location of the lethal Greenback Basic retailer taking pictures, instructed MSNBC on Sunday.
“He has had an assault, an all-out assault on the Black group together with his anti-woke insurance policies, which we all know very properly was nothing greater than a canine whistle to get of us up and riled up in the best way wherein it simply occurred yesterday. As I listened to him for the primary time with that assertion, my blood is actually boiling.”
The lawmaker criticized DeSantis, who has condemned the assault, after he stated “focusing on folks as a consequence of their race has no place within the state of Florida” at a press convention on Sunday.
DeSantis has come underneath fireplace for backing efforts to loosen gun restrictions, gone after what he describes as “woke” insurance policies and supported controversial requirements for educating Black historical past in his state.
Nixon famous that she – together with different Black lawmakers – have “repeatedly” warned the GOP presidential candidate about his rhetoric.

Nixon, who appeared alongside the governor as he was booed at a Jacksonville vigil on Sunday, wrote in a put up on X (previously Twitter) that DeSantis “needs to apologize for his part” within the assault.
