Downtown Boise bar to close soon, reopen in spring after building a ‘cave’

A unusual downtown Boise bar will shut quickly after this weekend.

If it was anyplace however Gatsby, 280 N. eighth St., the explanation may appear odd.

“We’re reworking our again room into an deserted mine cave … ” Gatsby defined on Instagram.

In fact. And naturally, the “cave” will lead into extra advertising and marketing magic: a liquor-tasting room.

Opened in 2022 as an alley-entrance, speakeasy-style bar, Gatsby requires an ever-changing password to enter. (Zero prospects will enter March 3 by April 2 whereas it’s reworking the brand new area.)

Gatsby strives to move visitors to the Nineteen Twenties with craft cocktails, throwback trend and old-timey music. Besides when it often doesn’t. For a number of weeks starting final mid-November, Gatsby morphed into Mistletoe Magic, a “vacation pop-up bar.”

After prospects make their approach by the fake mine shaft this spring, they’ll enter a temperature-controlled tasting room, Gatsby wrote, “full of bourbon, whiskey, tequila and gin.”

And in case you shiver after downing a shot of 80-proof evil? It may not be the alcohol. Gatsby is aiming for its tasting-room temperature to be 58 levels. (SoCal transplants be damned!) The brand new area will welcome seven visitors at a time in 30-minute increments. Reservations might be accepted quickly by Gatsby’s web site.

“This isn’t some boring wine tasting,” Gatsby bragged, “however a swinging good time the place you throw on mink coats / hats whereas consuming and studying about Prohibition boozes!”

(Booooring? Idaho Wine Fee: Permission to be triggered.)

(Miiiink? PETA: ditto.)

Within the meantime, cave dwellers, would you favor your cocktail with a stalactite or stalagmite swizzle stick?
