Accused Lamar High School shooter found competent, trial set to begin Monday

The trial of a 15-year-old accused of capital homicide within the deadly capturing of a fellow scholar exterior Lamar Excessive College in Arlington will start Monday.

The teenager’s attorneys questioned if he would have the ability to sit by means of the trial, which was initially scheduled to start the week of Aug. 21, and Tarrant County Juvenile Choose Alex Kim ordered that the teenager endure a psychiatric analysis.

The defendant is accused of killing 16-year-old Ja’Shawn Poirier on the steps of Lamar Excessive College on March 20 and wounding one other scholar. The teenager was discovered competent to face trial, and jury choice was held Friday.

The trial will start with opening statements on Monday. In June, Kim denied a request from the prosecutors to attempt the accused shooter in grownup prison court docket.

The Fort Price Star-Telegram usually doesn’t publish the names of juveniles who’re accused of crimes until they’re charged as adults.
