Orlando Magic assistant coach Nate Tibbetts is finalizing a deal to turn out to be the pinnacle coach of the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports.
Tibbetts, 46, has labored as an assistant or affiliate head coach within the NBA for 13 seasons. He spent eight seasons as an assistant with the Cleveland Cavaliers beginning in 2011 then labored as an affiliate head coach for the Portland Path Blazers for 3 seasons. He is spent the final three seasons in Orlando on head coach Jamahl Mosley’s bench.
The Mercury are coming off a league-worst 9-31 season. They fired head coach Vanessa Nygaard after a 2-10 begin and promoted assistant Nikki Blue to interim head coach for the remainder of the season.
Tibbetts’ anticipated arrival takes place months after the Mercury employed Golden State Warriors govt Nick U’Ren as common supervisor.
